IOS National Pool Plant Operators Certificate


This PWTAG approved course covers everything the operator needs to know to effectively maintain a swimming pool, spa or water feature.

Candidates will learn about pool water circulation, filtration, disinfection, pH correction and heating of pool water.Candidates will also learn how to maintain water which is safe and pleasant to swim in, how to correctly test pool water and understand how to restore it to ideal conditions.

Successful candidates will be listed on the PWTAG directory. The Swimming Pool Technical Operators Certification lasts for three years, at which point revalidation is required.

Who is the course designed for?

This course is aimed at anyone involved in and responsible for the day to day operation of pool plant. This includes local authority employees, schools and private pool owners.

Course content

  • Maintaining swimming pool hygiene
  • Controlling chlorine and chemical levels
  • Managing water supplies and water treatment
  • Testing for pollution and parasite infection
  • Maintaining pipes, circulation and filtration
  • Promoting health and safety
  • Disinfecting water
  • Balancing pH and alkalinity
  • Diagnosing and testing the water
  • Making savings on heating, ventilation and energy


Candidates must be at least 18 years of age. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualificatio

The National Pool Plant Operators Certificate.

This is awarded by IQL UK, the body for the Royal Life Saving Society, and is valid for three years.

On the day

The course will run from 09:30 to 16:30 each day,unless otherwise advised
There will be one 45 minute lunch break at 12:30 each day and a 10 minute coffee break each morning and afternoon
Timings may be adjusted to suit local circumstances
