Overview

This qualification is specifically designed for spa pool operators. It is the first spa pool qualification to be accredited by the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group and enables candidates to maintain efficient and safe spa pool plant operations in modern, high tech settings.

Description

The Physical Activity and Leisure Management Academy (P.A.L.M.) Spa Pool Operators Certificate course is based upon ‘Swimming Pool Water, Treatment and Quality Standards for Pools and Spas’ (PWTAG) handbook, with additional references from ‘Management of Spa Pools, and HSG282.

The course is suitable for operators of all types of spa pools. Candidates will be provided with a comprehensive course handbook.

Section2: SPA POOL DESIGN & COMPONENTS:

  • Components of the spa pool 

 

Section 3: OPERATION of COMMERCIAL SPA POOLS:

  • Siting & installation requirements

  • risk management & emergency equipment

 

Section 4: SPA WATER TREATMENT & STANDARDS:

  • circulation
  • filtration

 

Section 5: CHEMICAL PROCESSES

  • pH Stabilisation
  • The Process of Disinfection

 

Section 6: WATER TESTING (Practical session)

  • Carrying out a range of water tests  (Poolside access required)
  • Analysis of results

 

Section 7; CHEMICAL DOSING EQUIPMENT

  • Automatic dosing systems, trichlorinators; pumps
  • Cleaning and Maintenance regimes

 

Section 8: EFFECTS of AIR, WATER & TEMPERATURE on the BODY:

Duration

Oneday course

Assessment

Short, multiple-choice test paper at the end of the course, flowed by a post-course practical assignment. Completed assignment to be returned to the assessor by the appointed date.

On the day

The course will run from 09:30 to 16:30 each day, unless otherwise advised.
There will be one 45 minute lunch break at 12:30 each day and a 10 minute coffee break each morning and afternoon
Timings may be adjusted to suit local circumstances

The cost of this course is dependent on location and number of candidates attending.
