STA Pool Plant Operations Revalidation Course (Level 3 QCF)


This course enables holders of the STA Award in Pool Plant Operations to revalidate their qualification for a further 5 year period


The qualification is valid for 5 years, after which candidates are required to undertake a minimum of 6 hours refresher training to update their knowledge in line with current standards, legislation and best practice.

To be accepted onto the course, candidates must be able to demonstrate they hold the STA Award in Pool Plant Operations.


The course will update knowledge across the following areas:

  • The industry lead bodies and their recommendations and guidelines
  • Pollution and its removal, the threat of disease such as legionnaires and how they are 
  • Principles of circulation and filtration and the requirements for regular maintenance
  • How the physical characteristics of a swimming pool can be hazardous
  • The principles of water treatment, including pH, water balance and water testing
  • Microbiological testing
  • Analysis and interpretation of readings leading to corrective action 
  • Methods for recording results and maintaining records
  • Understanding the different types of residual and non-residual disinfectants and their use in 
water treatment
  • Developing an understanding and awareness of current industry best practice, guidance and 
  • Principles of Health and Safety and the relevant Statutes
  • Developing an understanding of the environmental implications of operating and managing 
swimming pools, spas and associated plant
  • Swimming pool ventilation and heating systems
  • Energy and cost efficiency 


One day course


  • Successfully complete the post-course assignment in order to pass the revalidation course
  • Note: Failure to achieve the pass mark will result in the issue of a notice of competency to the candidate

On the day

The course will run from 09:30 to 16:30 unless otherwise advised
There will be one 45 minute lunch break at 12:30 and a 10 minute coffee break, morning and afternoon
Timings may be adjusted to suit local circumstances


The cost of this course is £150.00 plus VAT per candidate
